Home is where the heart is
Up into the wilds of west Wales this weekend, for a birthday party. The snow fell and decorated the hills for us; and we reveled in just pootling about the tracks and lanes. I caught a glimpse of a Red Kite, silhouetted against the sky.
To get away from the fizz and fuzz of London is always a great pleasure; and one that grows with every escape. Having each spent more than 20 years here; this place has been feeling tired and more than a little worn out.
Wales is the place we've set our hearts on for a little while now. J's family and close friends of mine all live there. It's a relatively easy drive from say, Cardiff, to my home town in Wiltshire.
We'll have the benefit of coast and countryside, both a few minutes from our intended location in a quiet valley. It'll be refreshing for instance, to sit in a country pub and actually have a conversation with the people at the next table, or be walking somewhere beautiful and inspiring, just 10 minutes from home.
Since J's illness we have had many discussions on getting out and simplifying our lives. There've been notions of a small-holding, work in conservation, a job in a rural garden center. Friends and acquaintances have made the leap, and appear to be enjoying the quiet life.
I'm sure the change will not be without a few of its own challenges. Time to take a risk.

Good luck with those changes. Understand the thinking only too well.
Ah Blakey. You'll have to come and sample some Brains Bitter. There's lovely.
Don't leave me mate..... What am I to do for a drinking buddy? I'm putting a stop to this right away! What a crazy idea. How could you leave South London for the Welsh countryside? I mean c'mon.........
Yes Imo. At our time of life (!), it feels like the right thing to do. Adventure beckons...
